We start our tour, visiting Demeter’s temple ,the ancient restored marble temple of 530 BC. A monument really worth visiting ,not only because of the temple but also because of the magnificent museum located at the same area. Then we drive in the rural area of Gyroulas valley and we stop at St George Adissarou church on the feet of Apalyrou castle ,from that point we walk on the old Byzantine paths heading to Adissarou springs and the pro-Minoan time olive tree (4500 years old),a quite recent discovery. A nice path to walk,an interesting path in nature. Afterwards our nature discovery tour goes on and we visit Chalki ,to walk in the olive groves and see the Byzantine church of St.George Diasoritis (11th cen AD) .
Last but not least,we cross Filoti and head to Aria springs with it crystal-clear, drinkable water and Zas Cave,which is located at the western side of Mount Zas, at an altitude of 600 meters. The cave exhibits unique geological interest. A 10 meters high and 2,5 meters wide gate leads to the impressive interior of the cave, that can reach 115 of height and 75 meters in width. The cave has imposing stalactites and stalagmites. Next stop is lunch break stop at a traditional tavern near Moni village ,with exceptional mount Zas view and excellent food selection.
